In 1994, I purchased a townhome without an inspection and later discovered costly issues that could have been identified beforehand. Years later, when buying another home in 2013, I did have an inspection, but some problems were still not clearly explained and surfaced after closing.
Those experiences showed me how important it is for buyers to fully understand the condition of a home before making decisions. That perspective ultimately led me to become a certified home inspector, with the goal of helping others avoid the same uncertainty.
Helping clients as a home inspector means paying close attention to the details of a house and explaining what those details mean in practical terms. A safe and secure home is important, and inspections play a role in helping clients understand the condition of the property.
It is a privilege to assist in this process by providing clear information, answering questions, and making sure clients understand their inspection report so they can make informed decisions about their living spaces.
After high school, I began my construction career in North Dakota, starting as a laborer and advancing into foundation work, framing, and masonry. During that time, I contributed to residential construction projects as well as larger builds, including a local college’s activities center and sports auditorium. This work provided a broad, hands-on understanding of how buildings are constructed from the ground up.
In 1984, I joined the Army National Guard as a Combat Engineer. My work included construction and infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and buildings, both in the United States and overseas, including assignments in the Marshall Islands, Panama, Honduras, and Guatemala. While initially trained as a crane operator, I later specialized as an electrician, combining electrical training with practical construction experience.
In addition to construction and engineering work, I have an aviation background as a commercial pilot, certified flight instructor, and helicopter mechanic. Aviation demands precision, attention to detail, and disciplined decision-making — skills that carry directly into my work as a home inspector. I approach each inspection methodically, with an emphasis on accuracy, safety, and clear communication.
